Carrie (1976) Review

Carrie [1976]

Directed by: Brian De Palma

High school is a rite of passage for us. For some it's all laughs and games like Chris and the popular kids. For others like Carrie White it's a brutal passage filled with hit after hit. Carrie White is socially awkward and her overbearing mother doesn't help. Her life just seems like an abysmal pit. Until, out of nowhere she realizes she really isn't like most girls. She has powers and as she grows so do they. These might come in handy down the road. When others taunt and ridicule her the powers of telekinesis grow. Unluckily for them her telekinesis is triggered by pressure. Prom, a night to remember and you bet everyone did.

It has beautiful cinematography with the soft undertones which aide the mood of the transformation of her character and film. It's absolutely brilliant. The dance sequence with her and Tommy lends to us the viewers this important moment in her life when she is completely vulnerable. She let's down her guard and unfortunately dear mommy dearest was right. They did laugh but Carrie got the last laugh.

This is a perfect film and I wouldn't change a thing about it. Excellent casting, vivid cinematography, and overall an excellent story.

10/10
