Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Silent) Review

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Silent) Directed by: John S. Robertson Released on: March 18, 1920 Adapted from: Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Starring: John Barrymore and Martha Mansfield

"It was you-you with your cynicism-who made me ashamed of my goodness, who made me long for a knowledge of evil!" 👺Intelligent, charismatic, and curious Dr. Jekyll teased with the idea between duo personas and balance of good and evil tempts the unthinkable. From underneath his psyche steps out lurid, unhinged, and coy Mr. Hyde. Tune in to this silent film for tale of the unknown and where balance teeters back and forth.

My thoughts: Slow moving at first but after revisiting it this morning, I found myself eager to finish it. I didn't care for the poor choice in music at times. The film is artistic as this poster I found. I've viewed a handful of films for Lil Van Helsings so far but none of them made me jump like a scene in this film did. Unexpectedly subtle but effective it was creepy. I enjoyed this film. So pull up a comfy chair and pour yourself a cuppa. It's articulate, vivid, subtle, and enticing. Barrymore is everything I expected in both sides of the psyche. Outstanding!!

Final Score: 8/10-Morgana
