Halloween [1978]
Directed by: John Carpenter
🎃On Halloween night in 1963, six-year-old Michael Myers brutally murders his sister Judith. This leads to his incarceration in an asylum for 15 years until his escape. He returns to Haddonfield to begin his reign of terror with his eyes locked on Laurie Strode. Dr. Loomis, Michael's psychiatrist has a lead on Michael hoping he can stop him before more bodies turn up. Will he be successful hmm... 🎃
"Destiny is a real thing that every person has to deal with. No matter the choice you make it finds you." Ironically, the words Laurie heard in class when Michael drives by the school. Foreshadowing the fight that both her and Michael now have.
This film has faultless cinematography in my opinion. The wide shots pull you in as the point of view angles do. You're allured to look in the shadows hoping for a clue no matter how many watches. The story really pulls you in. Laurie is one of my favorite characters in horror. She fights a relentless battle with Michael it seems. The ice-cold patience and demanding presence he has matches her will to survive. This is her destiny to fight against Michael. The casting is well done. The score is subtle but memorable. Carpenter has created a story that has captured quite the following and for obvious reasons. The story of one character’s will to survive and another's unquenchable vendetta. Brilliant film and one of my favorite slashers. It is full of suspense at every corner.Â
