Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971) Directed by: John D. Hancock
"Frail as the leaves that shiver on spray. Like them we flourish, like them, decay. "
Can the world really be as frail as Jessica's spirit is? Is reality she knows a bit more grim than she could ever begin to suspect?
Jessica is enjoying her newfound freedom after being released from a mental institution, into the care of her loving husband (Duncan). His loyal and close comrade (Woody) is a free spirit wanderer much to the appeal of Jessica's world. In their care she will finally find peace or so...she hopes. Throughout her story she is haunted by a woman in a white gown and she hears voices obviously others aren't aware of. Afraid of being sent back she keeps quiet. But...for how long will this strategy last? 🤔 She finds a mysterious woman in her new home randomly. Jessica being the kind spirit asks her to stay. We have been here before, can this really be a good idea? As her life and mental strain are routinely twisted; she slowly transcends into madness or...so we think? 😉 The mysterious woman (Emily) has an uncanny resemblance to the late owner of her new home. It can't be her!? She drowned several years ago? Can it be she is the legend that holds the town in her blood soaked grasp? As bodies turn up, Jessica slowly comes to terms that dear old Emily might be the vampire legend. Tune in and find out if everything really is at it seems or if Jessica is mad.
My thoughts: Great effective soundtrack, excellent setting, great story, love a great thriller that reads like a horror film, awesome plot. Nope, I'm not remotely disappointed. If you love 70s horror aesthetic with Hammer feels give this one a watch. Credit for this recommend goes to my bestie. 🖤
