Mad Max (1979)
Directed by: George Miller
The setting is dystopian Australia. Nightrider and his gang of lackeys rule the road! They take what they want and do as they please. No one dare to tell them otherwise, or they pay the ultimate price with their...life! Nightrider meets his demise. It doesn't take long for his lackey's to find a new leader Toecutter! Toecutter is ruthless sparing no one in his path. On a normal day of patrol our heroes Max Rockantasky and Jim Goose spot the remnants of the gang's mayhem. Hoping this will finally be the break they need to bring them in they hope one of the survivors will testify to end this havoc. When their silence falls on trial then only member left behind is left to walk away. This enrages Jim Goose! Rightly so! Is there no justice? Will the gang run free or will Max bring them in?
The path turns grimmer. As Toecutter and his gang of lackeys reep cruelty at every given turn. Turning their eyes on the Jim Goose and Max. When Goose meets an unfortunate fate this offsets Max. He realizes it's time for him to move on. His wife intervenes and convinces him to take a vacation away for awhile to hopefully bring him back to earth. Their happiness is once again halted when Max's wife and Toecutter's gang cross. Toecutter has his eyes set on his wife and after she refuses he sets to even the score fatally. Tormenting the couple and especially his wife along the way. It takes one more cruel twist of fate to unleash the hell Max has in store for the gang. When Justice doesn't prevail it's time for one to take matters into their own hands!
After a few tries, a fresh cuppa, later I was able to finally finish this film. I think I didn't find the character of Nightrider that interesting. I did like how the pace started to move once his character was gone lol.
I enjoyed this film. If you love a little corn in your dialogue, some classic 70s humor, cringeworthy villains with strange names, admirable comrade Goose, and a broody Mel Gibson give this one a shot.
