My Lady of Whims [1925]

Directed by: Dallas M. Fitzgerald

Starring: Clara Bow, Carmelita Geraghty, Donald Keith, Francis McDonald, and Lee Moran

Streamed on: Amazon Prime

Mr. Severn and his eldest daughter enlist the help of Detective Bartley Greer and Dick Flynn to help locate and save his youngest daughter Prue. Prue is a free spirit who enjoys life in the fast lane. At first, Detective Greer is reluctant but upon seeing a picture of Prue he changes his mind. He arrives soon after with Flynn, at Greenwich Village and discovers Prue is living in a studio with her friend Wayne Leigh. It's there that Greer and Prue meet for the first time. Prue takes Greer's word that he is new in town and wants to show him around the ever happening Greenwich Village. They begin a friendship. It's during this time you can tell there are sparks between them but it's still not certain. She finds out that Greer was sent over by her father to spy on her and bring her home. Upset, she runs into the arms of Rolf! Rolf is a carefree water-colorist and he very much fancies Prue. Greer tries to scare him away but unbeknownst to him, Prue and Rolf already have plans! Plans? Well, plans to go to the risque costume party in Greenwich Village. They evade Greer and start the night fun and fancy-free at the party! Of course, this doesn't go unnoticed by Greer and he catches up to them. Still determined to save her he confronts what he thinks is Rolf and is once again evaded by the pair.

Prue decides that the best course of action at this point is to elope with Rolf. This will surely send everyone off edge! You bet, of course it does! The effervescent couple believes they have successfully escaped Greer only to have their foolish plan stopped! Greer returns with the pair to Mr. Severn and announces he is quitting. This sparks the interest of Prue and she decides now is a good as time as any to enlighten Bartley on a new interest. Her! The film ends with an embrace between both Prue and Bartley!

My thoughts:

I felt the plot was generally fast moving. It was consistent. I didn't really think the score helped set the mood but it is a product of it's time. I loved the costume and setting! The cast was solid all around. Considering the time, Clara's costume at the party received quite the rave off screen as well as onscreen.

Final Score: 8/10
