Old (2021)
Directed by: M. Night Shyamalan
Before lockdown I considered watching this. I never got to it and there it was on HBO Max as part of the Hispanic Heritage Month collection so I figured why not finally give this one a watch.
For premise purposes:
A family arrives at a breathtaking beach resort with others in hopes to escape from the grind and troubles of their lives. What ensues is a little more than they bargained for? But what exactly...
I didn't know what to expect to this besides possibly some creepy beach movie. What I got instead was the nauseating pain of seeing one of thee most annoying characters since Peggy Hill on screen. The doctor character was thee worst and his wife was just as horrible!
The pacing felt off to me. I felt like the deceit just came out of nowhere which was the intention but then the pacing felt off after. Like suddenly, let's throw everything into the pot now and slow the tempo just a smidgen but ohhh wait nevermind! Confused? So, was I 😆. It had a decent premise but it was forgettable. The real horror was how unsettling the facts were with the the ages of the events that unfolded. It was abrupt and forced. I felt completely lost. I think the ending although at the root was tragic was good.
There really wasn't much horror tones to it besides the horror of having to sit threw most of the movie dealing with that horrible doctor character LOL I knew everything was going to go downhill once the kid's were playing hide and seek. The idea of the kids still being children in their adult bodies just felt wrong to me. There was just something totally off about this film but the ending although sad was okay. I mean in essence the two children survived but at what cost? I think that's what felt off to me that the kid's were still technically children but their shell wasn't. At times they acted rational but tried to counter that with making sandcastles. I'm so confused??? Does your body age but your brain is perpetually 6?
I honestly didn't care for this one. One watch was enough.
