Parents (1989)
Directed by: Bob Balaban
Streamed: Amazon Prime
What happens when you side with a case of youthful rebellion against you’re at quick glance normal parents? Mom is your average housewife. Dad is your average working man. 10 year old Michael seems to have it made or so we think... His father (Nick) is simple and works hard but has a sick knack of threatening his child when he starts to wise up to his parents tricks. He asks why are we always eating leftovers? Leftovers of what exactly? Well, that's where you'll have to piece this mystery. To get to the foot of the problem, you'll have to sit and watch what this "happy family" hides behind their doors.
At times Lynch inspired nightmare sequences, at least that's what I took from it. Unnerving but it's intentional. Solid cast and score. Great setting. At times it dragged but it picks up. It's worth it. Check it out! Just in time, for breakfast! Care for leftovers? 🥧
Final Score: 8.5/10
