The Abominable Dr. Phibes Review

The Abominable Dr. Phibes [1971]

Directed by: Robert Fuest

Dr. Phibes concocts quite the ingenious plan to avenge the death of his wife. Not to mention,  he also wants justice for the accident that has left him permanently disfigured. Will Dr. Phibes have his revenge quenched?

I remember my first viewing of this film. As I mentioned previously,  I went on a research on Vincent Price after watching House on Haunted Hill. My search led me to a VHS with a dusty jacket that read The Abominable Dr. Phibes. The cover drew me in and I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. I wasn't. I've loved this film for so long from my first watch. I love the setting, score, casting, and idea that once again love surpasses understanding. That love doesn't just die but it survives even in death. The love he has for his wife and the justice he feels she deserves. I know this film isn't for everyone and it's questionable to cheer on ol Dr. Phibes.  I personally feel it's underrated. I feel in a way it surpasses understanding and it's intended that way. 💖
