The Lords of Flatbush Review

The Lords of Flatbush [1974]

Directed by: Martin Davidson, Stephen F. Verona

It's 1958 Brooklyn, and the film closely follows the story of the Lords of Flatbush. A group of young men who fancy a good time; whether it's chasing girls, playing pool, standing tall at a rumble or hanging out at their local malt shop. That's all that matters until one of them possibly impregnated his gal. He's not ready to give up life on the fast lane for settling down just yet. It isn't until the film continues on that he decides otherwise. Most group dynamics have the intellectual, the alpha, the jokester, and the Casanova so to say; see how all their stories pan out just before graduation!

I'm not sure how to place this film. I didn't hate it but I don't really have much of an opinion on it. It does have a cult following and I can see why. It's tongue and cheek humor revolving around 50s themes was interesting. I loved the cast but for the most unbearably excruciating scene to watch was when Stallone's character was trying to buy a ring for his girl. It was excruciating to watch and hear her berate his character. Talk about bratty she's one of the worst characters I have seen since Shiki. Lol 🤣 Maybe that's why I find it hard to score this because my unblinded distaste for her character lol.

Overall it was intriguing to see a comedy with a dramatic touch with some familiar faces.

7/10
