The Phantom of the Opera [1925]
Directed by: Rupert Julian
The Phantom of the Opera is a ravishing and austere tale. It's fueled by an unrequited desire for love. A love that will never be met because it belongs to another. The shadowing and attention to details is absolutely alluring. From set designs, costumes, cinematography, and overall atmosphere it has propelled into my one of my many favorite films of all time!
It's elegant and fueled with a disconsolate energy. It's tragic in a way you feel for Erik. His emotions carry on through the film that leave his desire in a state of misery. His misery projects him down a path of no return. Turning his loneliness to a passion for revenge!! There is no return from this path and it has justly earned its place into one of my favorite films. It was articulate, simple yet complex, and the mood was well done. From a talented cast to beautiful cinematography, I have nothing negative to add to this review. I wonder why this film doesn't get as much love as others do?
10/10

Even now years after this review was written. I can still picture this film. It's so underrated. It definitely is one of my favorite Universal Monster Movies and films ever!
