Under Wraps (1997) Review

Under Wraps [1997]

Directed by: Greg Beeman

Mystery and suspicion linger around Mr. Kubat's home when he meets an untimely demise. Being adventurous and curious a group of friends decide to take a look into Mr. Kubat's home. Their investigation leads them to his basement which holds plenty of secrets. The biggest being a sarcophagus. It seems like the kids unleashed a rather puzzled mummy from his great slumber! Will they be able to set things right and return their friend Harold (the mummy) to his eternal rest before he turns to dust on Halloween night?

This film was one of those Halloween specials I remembered from the 90s! It was one of the Disney Channel's first horror themed movies. It had a friendly dynamic that seems pretty common for these films. There's Marshall the misunderstood horror fanatic, the wise cracking and tough as nails Amy, and the meek eccentric geek Gilbert. It works for this film and adds to the overall charisma. The story of a group of friend's quests to save their dear friend Harold (the mummy) all the while, they overcome their own personal issues in their families and themselves. Not to mention help their friend Harold overcome heartache in a way. Excellent settings, Halloween mood, themes, and cheesy 90s humor/throwbacks!

8.9/10
