Anna and the Apocalypse (2017) Review

Anna and the Apocalypse [2017]

Directed by: John McPhail

Terror hits Little Haven around Christmas! The town's monotonous lives change overnight when the undead reap havoc on the living. Anna is oblivious as she heads to school because she's too busy focusing on much happier thoughts. Her headphones block out the screams and bone crunching fest that's just going on around her. Can Anna wielding a candy cane as her trusty scepter save her classmates and father before the undead claim them? 🧟‍♂️

I was curious how a zombie musical would turn out. Musicals have quite the repertoire. It's a hit or miss for me, personally. I did enjoy this one. If you can get by poppy show tunes, you'll enjoy it! I think the musical aspect worked well with the writing. The music transitions were smooth.

If you love your musicals with entendres, blood, guts, poppy music, teenage angst, high school emotions, rebellion, and zombie Santa's check this one out! 🧟‍♀️

There are some cliches but again this is a high school zombie musical. You're prone to have a few. You got the pretentious jock, the "weirdo" 🙄, the awkward bestie with obvious feelings for the leading gal, vapid at times classmates, and your leading lady. For this film and plot it works perfectly. I enjoyed the humor and the sequence where Anna is oblivious, was hysterical.

7.9/10
