Batman vol.1-13

by: Tom King

They say what one is truly capable of is tested when they are thrown in quite the challenging moments in life. Each moment challenges our perspective and inches us closer to who we are meant to be on our destiny. What is Bruce's destiny?

Is he to carry the city of Gotham on his shoulders saving them and watching over them like the gargoyles on the buildings or is he the shadow in the night maneuvering through it pursuing a destiny unbeknownst to him.

Tom King illustrates quite the story. Key moments that will either make or break the bat. At the reins of this quest is a baddie who has defied each limit he has held. What will be the outcome?

I am at first still quite peeved on a character's death which should say something about the writing. Your take might not be the same as mine. I have loved this character for so long and they are seldom thought about. This is supposed to be a moment for personal growth for Bruce. I still feel he was cheated and that this wasn't necessarily fair, it still bothers me.

The major premise of this story was a great build up to Catwoman (Selina Kyle and Bruce Wayne) and Batman getting married. For volumes, we read the leading moments to the big day for it to go one way STILL cheeses me off. Again, this is written and taken as a motive for personal growth for Bruce. Again, I still feel this isn't fair. It's not fair for Selina. Considering everything her character has gone through. Personal growth is a challenge. Things happen tragically that impact us a certain way.

I feel there were stronger volumes in his series. I felt there could have been stronger moments. The whole bringing Thomas Wayne back and he's a villain seemed rather out of the left field which was intended but still loses me. It tied into a different timeline and went with it but you're still in this timeline. If you're confused trying to understand that welcome to the club. It wasn't a terrible series and yes, there were key take away moments for me as a reader and a long time fan of the Bat.

As a critic I rate this at a...

As a series: 4/5 ⭐

As a 🦇fan: 3.3/5

The weakest vols were 10, 4

I feel this series was also for Selina. I feel there were strong moments for her character but ultimately abrupt moments where I felt lost on her character development.
