Black Swan Review

Black Swan (2010)

Directed by: Darren Aronofsky

The spotlight hovers over the center stage. The crowd remains suspended in silence. The movement of the lights draw the rhythmic attention to the stage. That spotlight bares a seductive light and forward all lays your work. Every blood, sweat, and tear erased on opening night. The audience unaware lies in awe.

Laying in perfection one becomes a slave to doubt and illusion. The perfect step, the perfect movement, the perfect...gasp. Perfection is a cruel mistress and it chains us into its grasp. This film burrows into the recesses of your mind. Even I too, laid a fool trying to write the perfect review to grasp what my thoughts are/were. I'll probably rewrite this in the future because it's "not perfect". 🤦‍♀️😆I have so much to say but I wanted to say just enough to intrigue. It's a symbolic and metaphorical film. It's artistic and the cinematography is unmistakably art. You leave the film asking questions and images so grossly ingrained. Body horror... still one genre that legit creeps me out. 😖 The part with her legs I actually felt that watching it. 😵 You feel the stress and pressure of the image one becomes under the umbrella of...perfection. It's cruel. There is no other word I can think of to sum it. So what awaits at the opening night curtain call? Guess you'll have to see. Who will prevail the white or black swan?

9.8/10

****Updated thoughts*****

The idea of pressure and the entrapment one's own desire to be perfect is illuminated in a light that is hard to look away. Perfection is a cruel quality some of us chase and hunger for. Are we doomed from the start? A dancer teeters with this idea and haunting concept. Will the audience be able to see her all or will they give her the curtains on opening night. It's deeply symbolic and I still haven't forgotten it since my initial watch.
