Dead Poets Society [1989]
Directed by: Peter Weir
All it takes is one teacher to make a significant difference in your life. For the group in this picture it is Mr. Keating. Oh, captain my captain! With a different method of teaching he breaches walls that cloud his students. Clashing with the strict regime the school holds dear. His way of teaching makes an everlasting impression on each student and helps them all learn a little more about themselves.
Excellent film, This film is a classic which helps illustrate the power that the right teacher has to make their students move forward. Of course, there is clashes with the old and new.
I can tell this film inspired one of my favorite teachers, and some over the course of high school. Mr. K, would bring his guitar to class. He would invoke us to connect analysis to our reading material. He challenged stereotype and made us more aware of who we were. I got to thank him post high school for his lectures. I told him how in a way he inspired me to pursue my career. It started with his style of teaching that viewing this again helped me to connect the pieces. For the Mr. K, teachers and professors out there and the one's we know/knew this one's for you!
