Judy [2019]
Directed by: Rupert Goold
One woman's journey through vices searching deeply to connect and feel wanted. Her past is shadowed in trouble. Her past is haunted by an unloving mother and the pressure to always fit a mold. Her life sparks when she says, "I do!" to Mickey.
Judy wants stability for her children. She longed to have a better connection to them unlike her mother. She wanted her family and she craved the warmth from them. It felt like it was her against the world. The world she helped uplift through her gifted voice.
"This isn't a song about going anywhere. It's about walking toward somewhere that you dreamed of. And maybe...'Maybe the walk...is everyday of your life..and the walking has to be enough. It's about hope. And we all need that." -Judy Garland (Renee Zellweger)
Much like the quote from the film, I feel it formed a center for Judy's portrait painted on center stage in this film. You rooted for her. You wanted her to succeed. I feel Zellweger did a fabulous job on bringing Judy to 2019 cinema. The soundtrack was fitting. The finale was memorable and indeed so was the film. Great cast all around and excellent cinematography. If you're a fan of hers check it out. I'm not sure how near accurate the portrayal in comparison to what really happened is. I always liked Judy Garlanda and this was a good film.
