Ever loving a good mystery, I got instantly hooked from the first episode of this series! I heard about it through a recommendation from my father. I wanted to use this entry to give just a brief synopsis of the first season.
The premise lies in individual cases where you begin with the perpetrator of the crime in the opening credits. So, you know who is responsible, there lies the mystery! Will they get away with the "perfect crime"? In a classic who done it, you follow Lt. Columbo, he isn't your average run of the mill detective, often mistaken as a common person. He takes charge of these cases. Lt. Columbo is an aficionado of the simple things! His usual bowl of chili from a local diner, his cigar, and his very worn raincoat. To the untrained eye of the criminals he brings to justice, he doesn't appear like a force to be reckoned with. As you tune in through the series you will find out this isn't the case. Never missing the smallest of details Lt. Columbo has an idea early on who the real criminal is. He doesn't let off. Which is a common technique to help rattle the cage enough to cause the criminal to make a mistake. Sometimes, there isn't a mistake but through his precise strict to detail modus operandi he seals the case time and time again. Will the criminal get away with it or will Columbo bring them to justice, tune in and find out!
My thoughts: I absolutely enjoyed this first season. There were two episodes that were a bit on the slow paced side but such are his cases and attention to detail. So, it works for the sake of the series. I loved the perspective angle and mystery. If you're a fan of mysteries, true crime, detectives, and TV Drama's give this one a whirl. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it for the first season. I have now started season 2. Peter Falk brings enough charisma and intrigue to Lt. Columbo. I thoroughly enjoyed this season. I look forward to the new cases in the second season.
Final Score:9.5/10
