Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Review

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood [2019] Directed by: Quentin Tarantino Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, Luke Perry, Dakota Fanning, Emile Hirsch, Kurt Russell, and many more It's just an ordinary day. Another ordinary day, for Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) living in 60s L.A..; during this time he has gained quite the reputation, and status. However, as the 60s draw a close so does he. He slowly transcends into becoming a shadow in Hollywood and himself. Finding sympathy and comfort at the bottom of the bottle. Dalton's in good company. 🙂 Cliff Booth (Pitt), his former stunt double has loyally remained at his side. Cliff maintains a level head in this scenario. Their paths soon will cross those of quite the grimmest characters that close out this nostalgic drama. See what Hollywood has in store for them and other recognizable characters in film history. The film carried a nostalgic thread and quite the picture Tarantino paints in this film. Great sets, use of angles to make you feel like you're an extra or even behind the director's chair. Excellent use of lighting to feel the mood. The story rewrote history and this didn't sit well with some critics. Call it as you will. I enjoyed the ending! That ending was bittersweet. I found something fragile in it. Sharon (Robbie) was portrayed as a fragile, jubilant, free spirit. Dalton was a once big name actor/star now turned forgotten by the very place he began. He searches to be remembered and appreciated. The emotional breakdown really parelled Dalton's situation. Cliff is this edgy spirit that I feel is pretty well carried in the 60s by all sorts behind and in front the camera. Excellent film. Tarantino did not disappoint.

8.5/10
