Pennyworth [2019]
Streamed: Epix
Composer: David E. Russo
It's 1960s London, picture it... former Special Air Services, Private Alfred Pennyworth is dealing with life after the service. As fate intervenes rather abruptly, a normal day on the job his path crosses that of Thomas Wayne. In a somewhat brief exchange; Alfred passes his card offering services to Thomas for security. Thomas exchanges his number in gratitude for helping him with his party goer sister, Patricia. Alfred trying to start fresh, begins a security service and that card fatefully lands in Wayne's hand. Bit of foreshadowing no? 😉
As the story elapses, Alfred's once simple life takes quite the turn. Sex, booze, and violence paint the story and fill the screen as the story unfolds. Alfred continues to find himself in the middle of the Raven's Society and the No-Name League; battling for the crown and the devotion of the English people. How does the story unfold for Alfred? Check it out, to find out.
At first, I didn't care for it. Finishing the series, I had to go back and watch the first two episodes. I realized all the minimal clues setting it up for the big finale of season 1. It definitely picks up after episode 4 for me. If you love a bit of mayhem and some pretty crazy gore. This series might just be for you. This isn't the Alfred I'm used to reading but it was interesting to hear a bit of back story on him. Some of the series can be taken in DC Dark. I saw some of the outcomes coming. Some of them I honestly didn't. I liked it for that reason.
Great setting, score, cinematography, cast, and the gore lol I didn't care for one of the villains but that person grew on me. You understand them more as the series follows through.
Series overall 8/10
