Playing with Fire Review

Playing with Fire (2019)

Directed by: Andy Fickman

Streamed on: Hulu

While I had an AMC membership I had the chance to watch 3 movies for free. Seeing as at the time, I was caught up I considered watching this one. I normally wouldn't watch it but for free why not? 🤷‍♀️ Due to closures, I wasn't able to. Through the powers of Hulu I figured why not just check it out. It doesn't really have any actors I'd run to the theater to watch and the premise seemed predictable.

After viewing it here is my collected thoughts. I think it had moments where it's cutesy recipe that has been used in family films has been used before worked. You take a character that is pretty set in their ways and suddenly throw them into a change of setting and unfamiliar territory then BOOM! something changes on the inside. The way they thought it was supposed to be and perspective changes thus creating the classic storybook ending.

Yep, that's this in a nutshell. It was predictable, the traditional roles you see in these films fit the bill and at points it was kinda cringey. 😬 As if I stepped into my version of Groundhog Day but eerily I've been here before with a predictable plot. To its credit, it is a family film. Maybe I'm not the target audience but I wasn't that happy and then it became background noise while I took notes for class. It has a strong cast but it was too cheesy for me and I like cheese. 🧀❤ 🤣

I'm giving this a solid 4/10. An extra point to the My Little Pony theme song sung in operatic form. I'm not kidding. I did say cheese. 🤷‍♀️🧀❤
