Richard "Dick" Grayson has a back story quite similar to our broody Bats. What differs from this retelling collectively is how it illustrates the young ward as a son to Bruce. The one he took under his wing. The one who he didn't realize he would learn so much from. The one who was trained to be a soldier and be resilient in his own darkness.
This 3 part series collectively is thought provoking to anyone who invites perspective from different sides of the story. It challenges empathy and reality. It tells the story of a once lost orphan taken under the wing of a rich man who he himself sees a parallel in his young ward. One who like him struggles to find the light in darkness but still fights to find the way out. It's absolutely brilliant. I have zero complaints.
The art is moving and subtly immerses you into the origin story of Robin. It differs in it adds to years of canon and still breathes familiarity. The cover for the 3rd book. 💔❤
I decided to skip my review for book 2 and do a collected review after I picked up book 3. You can see why. The writing is cohesive and adds to canon. The art is by one of my favorites. If you love Batman, Robin, or are simply curious. I'd recommend the series. Then again, your takeaway might be different from mine. I loved it. I thought it was kind of ironic my first print review was a Batman comic like how it was when I first started this page.
