Shiki Review

Shiki (2010) 22 episodes series on Hulu *Spoiler Free*

This anime is an adaption from the manga of the same name by Fuyumi Ono, which again is another adaption of Ryu Fujisaki's work. The story is about a small town (Sotoba) haunted by bizarre deaths that begin to plague the town once a new family moves in. Personally for me, it would have been better as a movie instead of a series. A lot of the episodes felt like filler episodes and because of this I became bored easily. I found it hard at times to want to finish the series because none of the characters stood out to me. The Town Doctor who was one of the main characters irritated me more and more as the series unfolded. It wasn't until the end that he found some redemption in my eyes. There was an underlying message which made you think twice as a member of the audience on where your allegiance lied. In a slight sense, it was interesting idea. There are a few points that were "spooky" and made me jump. Overall, I didn't really care for it. I committed to finishing it. From a lack of strong characters in my honest opinion, to mediocre score I wasn't that impressed. If you like supernatural mysteries and a bit of drama in your anime, then this is for you. It gave a perspective on the antagonist that is quite recognized in horror.

Final Score: 3/10
