From the moments they first hit print to the most recent installment this family has been revamped and tweaked for several years. Two thing's are at core. The adoring way they do not quite fit in with everyone else and the beloved center Morticia and Gomez.
My first introduction came to me in the form of re-runs of the TV series. My earliest costume for a consecutive 3-5 years or more was Morticia. I loved my costume! I wore it until the thread started to unravel on my dress which by that point was more of a sun kissed off black dress and my wig was a barely worth keeping. I loved it! A memorable Halloween memory from my childhood Halloween was a random twist. For third grade in my public school we had a Halloween parade. What this was is as a school we would walk around the block (which thinking of it now was quite a bit of walking lol) in our costumes. I always loved this as a kid! One 3rd grade Halloween I remember (this was totally unplanned too) I was dressed up as Morticia. Then one of the kids in my class, I think his name was Josh dressed up as Uncle Fester! So, during recess we thought since we were in costume we would pretend we were the actual Addams Family characters! Needless to say 8 year old me was totally for this! I get to be one of my favorite characters Morticia! Are you kidding... this rules! So I remember just trying to look for ghosts in the playground during recess because I thought that's what you did. Reflecting on this happy memory I realize this was my first cosplay experience. This family has brought me several hours of laughter and happy memories.
I loved the dear naive nature that their way of looking at things was rather literal yet peculiar by "normal standards". I love the almost innocent view on the world around them. Why it's normal to find happiness in even the grimmest of things isn't that what everyone else thinks? They were definitely young at heart.
I can't mention the family without talking about the core and that's 'Tish and moustache. 🖤 The heart of the family. This truly romantic duo completely and fueled with love. It's never ending and immortal through the years of revamping their flame still burns bright as the day they came to be. The devotion of Gomez and Morticia for each other is unquestionably beautiful. I think I saw it from a young age. Perhaps why one of my first crushes was Raul Julia. 🖤 This view of true love and heart forever connected in growth. It's truly passionate. The passion they have for each other matches their love for family and all things eccentric. This unbridled love for each and passion is what holds their family at the center. This matches their love for their children and family.
The Addams Family will continue to carry a legacy of love, nurture, horror, family, and kookiness. It's no wonder why they continue to be revamped. They hit print first but I don't see them going away any time soon.
This post is a sort of homage to a family that I have cherished since the first of many watches in my youth. From the films, print, and cartoons the Addams are here to stay. Who knows what we can expect next from them! One thing is for sure years later Gomez and Morticia will still be much in love since the first day they hit print.
