The New Guy [2002]
Directed by: Ed Decter
Every geek has their day. Can Dizz escape the haunting and humiliating past from his previous school? He emerges on a new school with a new persona with new advice and tips from his mentor Luther. Things are about to change or so he hopes but will they?
I loved this film when it came out. I was still in high school. 😆 Some rewatches you gain perspective but some like this one you wish you left that last rewatch in your past. Let's talk on the positives first. I liked that Dizzy helped create a change in his new school. I liked that centrally he helped change perspective on those around him. Thus, creating necessary change to have others lives at school more tolerable and smoother. The idea you can change but in the process help impact those around you warrants applause and credit. Now, the bad.
I without a shadow of a doubt thought this was TERRIBLE. I thought this was excruciatingly terrible. Besides the small random cameos, it wasn't a great film. I hate the nauseating "goth" cliches in films. The cliques in general are as stereotypical as they get. The humor was stupid. The humiliating moment was epic cringeworthy. This film drove high school cliches off a cliff and didn't stop. It was terrible absolutely horrible. Not so bad it's good this is cringey. I'd like to give it some credit for the cameos especially Gene Simmons lol. Other than that, if I could just unwatch this from my brains history. That would be great. ☕ Do not recommend this.
