A song when created can have several different pretenses. Some songs are written have no meaning. Other songs, when written carry a powerful meaning and message.

Lady Day had a message to bring to her audiences. That message was 'Strange Fruit'. Considering the time frame she was constantly silenced and threatened not to perform it. Thus, a narcotics sting operation was formed against her.

The film follows the turbulent life of hers. The ups and downs. Her successes and her misses. I've been a fan of Billie Holiday for many years now. So, when I heard about this film I had to check it out! I didn't know much about her life but I did love her music. This was a powerful film and the imagery in some of the scenes was haunting. The cinematography, casting, wardrobe, mood, and overall film was thorough. I have no complaints.
