Tom & Jerry [2021]

Directed by: Tim Story

I grew up watching Tom & Jerry cartoons as a kid. I remember the Tom & Jerry show and kids show besides the classics. For my birthday, I got a VHS of their first on screen movie. I love Tom & Jerry. It's a piece of nostalgia that has been carried throughout my life. I tried with all my might to set it aside and view this film without all of this.

I've now watched it twice and quite frankly I don't care for it. It does have nostalgic nods if you're familiar with the classics. I understand it has to be modernized to fit today's views but it bored me. 🤷‍♀️

My chief complaints are for a film revolved on pushing Tom and Jerry they hardly felt like they were in it. The story had too many storylines going on. Some felt forced while others made no sense. It was cool to see some familiar faces as well as a running gag/cameo from a character I love. I also didn't care for the "villain" his performance felt dry. I thought this fits the bill along with other films modernized like Alvin and the Chipmunks. If you really loved that you'll love this. I didn't care for it. It had moments where it was humorous. The ending was cliche and I felt Tom and Jerry were more like supporting characters than central characters. I'm not a fan. I'm sorry 😬
