Top Hat [1935]
Directed by: Mark Sandrich
This film dances it's way into the 1001 films you must watch list. It's no surprise why. It has elaborate sets, and the choreography is flawless. It's visual poetry between the matching chemistry of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers is perfection!
The story revolves around one big misunderstanding and the play on it. Jerry falls head over heels for Dale. There's obvious chemistry between the characters however a misunderstanding causes tension. Dale assumes Jerry to be her friend Madge's husband and the film plays on that misunderstanding.
It is a product of it's time. I loved the dance sequences and for once I actually enjoyed the musical. The song's were choreographed flawlessly and I liked the humor. It was a fun watch that I'd recommend to anyone who appreciates old Hollywood aesthetic and films.
8.9/10
