Back to School (1986) Review

Back to School [1986]

Directed by: Alan Metter

Thornton is a millionaire without a care in the world except when it comes to his son. Mirroring emotions he can relate to in his youth; Thornton decides to enroll in college with his son. He hopes he can restore his hope back but his line of thinking causes trouble. Will the Melon's succeed or will they fail in their academic endeavors?

My pops is a fan of Rodney Dangerfield naturally I thought of this film when I was thinking of this new theme. School especially college can be quite the challenge. Jason finds himself constantly at ends with his father's antics and feels he can't escape the wealth and pressure behind the name. Hoping he can make a name for himself he finds the hope to succeed without any aid along the way. I think to me that was appealing. The drive to succeed to be independent. I really liked his character. I thought Thornton's character was humorous but helped bring the story full circle in the end. It's a fun comedy with some dated humor, some might feel. I liked the lesson that if you put your mind to it and have the ambition to succeed anything is possible.

7.3/10
