Born Yesterday 1950 Review

Updated: Mar 3, 2020

Born Yesterday (1950) Directed by: George Cukor Starring: Judy Holliday, William Holden, and Broderick Crawford

Awards: Academy Award for Best Actress and Golden Globe for Best Actress to Judy Holliday

You know they say be careful of the company you keep. This best sums up Billie's (Holliday) dilemma. She finds herself in the company of sneaky and crass tycoon Harry (Crawford). Annoyed by the level of embarrassment Billie causes due to her behavior he hires on Paul (Holden) to educate her. Of course, in the process Billie begins to learn more about the world around causing tension with Harry and thus causing her to fall for Paul. What's not to love about a man who educates and pushes your pursuit for knowledge ranging from cultural appreciation of the world, music, and art.

"It's interesting how many interesting things a person can learn if they read." I believe in that wholeheartedly. "A world full of ignorant people is a dangerous thing."

My Thoughts: Overall, a insightful film on the power of your pursuit to become more cultured and I love it!!! I randomly stumbled across this one on Amazon Prime. I really enjoyed the message and theme. The more you read the more you know. The more informed you become the world begins to change. That's a theme I can definitely get behind. Excellent theme. Excellent casting. I enjoyed everything about this film! Give it a shot. :)

Final Score: 8.5/10
