Lolita [1962]
Directed by: Stanley Kubrick
This film finds itself in the 1001 films you must watch before you die list and to be completely honest I could have died without ever seeing it. 😅
I felt an uncomfortable total amount of unease watching it. Namely the two characters Humbert and Quilty. Gross. 🤢😬
The premise is a cringey creep of a step dad gets the hots for Lolita and marries her mother to get closer to Lolita.
The film spans on his quest to "protect" her from the world i.e. other men. So he controls her. I'm sorry, I know this film has inspired some brilliant writers and directors but to me, it's just epic cringe. I was committed to viewing this film because it was on the list.
I suppose some highlights are the cinematography. The foreshadowing and noir aesthetic. I personally am not a fan. I fought with myself to even post a review but I'm devoted to my writing so here you go. I have nothing nice to say about this so I'm passing on a rating. Sorry.
Oh, before I forget Quilty was just as bad. How can Humbert fall for his "disguises" I mean... come on Clark Kent did a better job and that's saying something 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
