Phenomena Review

Phenomena/Creepers [1985] Directed by: Dario Argento Starring: Jennifer Connelly, Donald Pleasence, Daria Nicolodi, Patrick Bauchau Streamed on: Amazon Prime

Jennifer has a gift. A gift not many understand or could appreciate. She has the ability to communicate with insects. Insects and her share a quality that comes forth in the plot; they are misunderstood. The others at the boarding school she was transferred to mock her and chastise her for it. One day they witness first hand her powers over them. Assuming she's sinister her teachers plan to ship her off to a mental institution. However, she manages to escape and is lead by Inga a friendly chimpanzee who is the companion of McGregor. McGregor is trying to solve the mystery on a slew of murders happening. Having somewhat witnessed briefly one herself she uses her powers along with his knowledge to solve the mystery. Will the black gloved killer be found and who could it possibly be?

My thoughts: In true Argento fashion the film read like art. Submerging you into a plot you never would have expected to enjoy. I did! Great effects. The scene of confrontation in the pool extra creepy factor lol. Atmospheric soundtrack. Bonus for it being Iron Maiden, Motorhead, and Goblin once more! Great casting all around. I also enjoyed the scene where she stood up to her bullies. Frau was the most disturbing. Lol I liked the subtle ending as well. Very artistic and interesting.

Final Score: 8/10-Morgana
