Say Anything... [1989]
Directed by: Cameron Crowe
📻Lloyd's heart is set on winning the affections of Diane. There's just one thing that stands in his way well...actually a few. You see, Diane and Lloyd are quite the opposite. Lloyd is bashful, somewhat ambitious, and awkward. Diane's head is wrapped up in her studies and has no intentions to be anywhere but home. That is until one night Lloyd takes up the courage and calls her up. After some persuasion on his end, she agrees and they go out to a party. Ever the courteous date she slowly begins to see Lloyd steadily. This of course, makes Lloyd feel excited. With any level of courting, road blocks are probable. The more time they spend together the less invested Diane is in going overseas. Will Lloyd win over Diane? Is his young romantic heart setting up for a brutal heartache? Tune in to this one and find out. 📻
This is one of those films that I have seen time and time again. It is a film I have seen referenced, talked about, and well recognized. I have never watched it. I think the hold for the film lies in the character of Lloyd. There's a somewhat chivalrous appeal to his character and then there's the hook of well the chase. Can he a somewhat under radar character win the affections of his opposite? The characters in the film believe it's doomed from the start but is it really? There's something admirable in hope of his character. He does have his faults, then again, he's human after all. That I think was the appeal to the film. Were those real human emotions that either had you rooting for him or curious to see it pan out. So, what's your thoughts on Say Anything... why did this film for the longest have the hold it did? Before, I posted this review someone mentioned it isn't talked about as much. I agree. What changed? Sound off below :)
