Stand and Deliver Movie Review

Stand and Deliver [1988]

Directed by: Ramón Menéndez

Jaime Escalante decides to turn his attention to teaching. He goes to James A. Garfield High School to teach Mathematics. At first, there's a clash between him and his students. Instead of losing hope in them he challenges them by introducing advanced mathematics. He sees potential in them even if society and they themselves don't see it. Can he succeed?

A brilliant film that brings an excellent perspective without it reading like a stereotype. It's a breath of fresh air even by today's standards. I found out the instructor actually came from the same city and country my mother was born in. ❤ I love the hunger the students have to succeed, how this film isn't afraid to show social norms in some latinos lives. How the instructor fights for his students and sees their potential. The pressures we face and the challenges to pull forward. I really love this film. I highly recommend it. It's excellent all around. The world needs teachers like this. Strong and ready to lift the existing potential in their students. To help provide students with tools to succeed and be academically sound. Excellent film!

10/10
