Streets of Fire Review

Streets of Fire (1984)

Directed by: Walter Hill

Home, going back home for a gig brings back many memories. The memories of Richmond, a city fueled by the young at heart. Your past is there but it slips your mind or so you think... It's your night, the spotlight awaits you at center stage. The adrenaline rushes as you hit the stage. You see a crowded room full of admirers and your band mates setting the mood for you! The night is young and you give it all you got and so do they. In the shadows lurks watchful eyes fixated on a window for the chaos that's about to ensue. There! Their window is visible and they seize the opportunity! They kidnap you! You're suddenly in the clutches of those, wild at heart; the Bombers! Who will rescue you? The Bombers dash out into the night content with the mayhem they brought to your door. Away they flee into the night!

The streets belong to the gangs and no one gets in their way. Until one, one decides enough is enough and an example is made. Tom Cody, a rough and tough man. He isn't sitting by the sidelines when he's enlisted by Bill Fish to bring back lady fair. For a cost that Fish isn't ready to acquiesce at first the sum of 10 large! Knowing the sum that is requested in a grand scheme of returning his claim to fame and love interest is worth the number. Cody decides to carry out his plan solo but his soon to be comrade in crime offers their services. Can Cody, McCoy his loyal and tough comrade bring the Bombers to justice? Will Ellen Aim ever take the stage again and be rescued? Will justice be served tonight?

Justice awaits them in Battery. If you know anything. You don't go to Battery and especially never to Torchies! Torchies is the hip spot for the Bombers to take stake. The only bright light in their dimly lit city with the aroma of gasoline clinging to the air. The streets are canvased with neon lights and slick roads where the rain from the night before breathes. There's an echo of hope in the air but it's covered with smoke that looms from the motorcycles and cigarettes. Can Ellen be rescued?

The covert plan is set in motion and all the plays are running smoothly with Cody at the reins. No room for error as a lot is at stake and the Bombers won't be as forgiving for outsiders meddling into their territory! Raven, the head-cat at the center of the Bombers gang has claimed his territory. This is his home. He calls the shots and you would do best not to cross him! He's ambitious as he is cunning. Hoping Ellen will be his ticket to a better deal at life with his gang at his call. Too bad for him that's the last thing she wants and Cody is on his trail. As the plan begins to unfold a lot of carnage beckons the night. Raven and his gang are now at the center of the mayhem. The tables are turned on this hellion and his crew. Will Raven get his revenge and will Cody's plan truly work out? Give this memorable film a view to find out! 🙂

Absolutely excellent film!! Two thumbs way up on this one. Genius writing and screenplay, interesting dynamics, alluring settings, love the noir feel, well placed soundtrack to convey mood, and memorable assortment of characters. I love the aesthetic of the film. I love the wardrobe the mixture and themes between time periods. I knew, I had to own this instantly. Such a great film, I highly recommend! 10/10
