The Karate Kid (1984)
Directed by: John G. Avildsen
**********Perspective 1*****************
Daniel moves to Southern California with his mother in hopes for new adventures and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. However, Daniel finds out the hard way that not everyone can be as welcoming or friendly. With a giant target on his back, it's time for Daniel to push back. Pushing back with balance, precision, and patience are all lessons Mr. Miyagi teaches him subtly. With these new skills can Daniel bring home the trophy over his nemesis Johnny Lawrence from the Cobra Kai Dojo?
********** Perspective 2*****************
It's a summer unlike any that have come before it. You're at the top of the world. A group of friends, the status, and with all that comes the pressures of expectations. A new kid comes into town and suddenly all eyes shift to him. This isn't how you expected it. This isn't how it's supposed to be when you're the top cat in your group of friends. No, with the pressure of a tournament and the pressure of asserting your place all of this and more hangs in the balance. Will Johnny maintain the balance or lose it under pressure?
*****Collected Thoughts***********
Yes, there's two sides to every story. After watching Cobra Kai the TV series I kinda feel for Johnny. I also have and continue to like Daniel's character. Balance, is a gift. One that is often not considered. These two are the core of the Karate Kid film series and Cobra Kai series. It all began here. In 1984 when two kid's fought for the title. Edge versus balance. Both stood to lose. Both stood to gain. Depending on the rewatch I cheer for either or. Truth be told I like them both. Their story is fascinating more than the teens under their watch in the series.
Film: 9/10
